A Table Saw Is One Of The Safest Saws – If You Follow The Rules
Not all table saws have the safety features that the newer saws have that are shown in this video. So follow the rules.
Rule #1 Keep your fingers away from the blade. Always have a push stick handy.
Rule #2 Never stand directly behind the blade. And orient your saw so no one else will be behind the blade.
Rule #3 Always use an off feed table. A 4 x 8 sheet of plywood on some saw horses works great.
Rule #4 Never let go of the piece of wood between the fence and the blade. Push it through till it is past the blade.
Rule #5 Keep the blade as low as possible – a 1/4″ above the thickness of the stock is OK.
Rule #6 Never allow a short piece of stock to lie free between the blade and another object (usually the fence) The piece can rotate and once it comes into contact with the teeth of the blade it will get flung to the farthest corner of your shop. Always push pieces through so they are well past the back side of the blade!
